Life and Death from Unnatural Causes: Health and Social Inequity in Alameda County
City of Berkeley 2007 Health Status Report: Key Indicators of Health
In April 2006, BARHII launched the Data Committee, comprised of epidemiologists from member health departments. The committee is charged with developing and implementing strategies for elevating the standard of measures of health inequity that can support a practice that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional approaches. The committee has developed a conceptual framework that more effectively illustrates the connection between social inequalities and health, and focus attention on measures that have not characteristically been within the scope of public health department epidemiology. We anticipate that this work will ultimately strengthen the evidence base legitimizing new intervention strategies for eliminating health inequities.
