In 2016, BARHII was committed to expanding its regional voice and advocacy efforts. Part of this work was the development of BARHII’s Legislative Policy Platform.
The policy platform outlines the Bay Area Public Health Community’s policy priorities and was developed to provide a template for local health departments that are seeking to integrate health-promoting policies into their jurisdiction’s legislative platform. This model is based on best practices for population health and health equity that have been established regionally, statewide, and nationally to impact the social determinants of health.
The platform was designed by BARHII’s new Policy Committee to provide a detailed listing of the issues that impact health equity. The platform has been reviewed by each of BARHII’s Committees and received feedback in a General Membership Meeting. Further updates were provided by policy manager, Will Dominie. Updates have been made to reflect ongoing dialogue with social justice movement focused on equity, including the Movement for Black Lives’ Policy Platform and Economic Justice Organizations.
